A Naturopathic physician is trained as a general family practitioner. Naturopathic physicians combine modern laboratory and physical diagnostic tools with natural, nontoxic therapies that encourage the body’s inherent healing abilities. Some of the treatments may include nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, counseling, chiropractic manipulation, physiotherapy, electrotherapy, natural supplementation, and other natural remedies. The principles of Naturopathic Medicine include 1) The Healing Power of Nature, 2) Identify and treat the cause, 3) First, do no harm, 4) Doctor as teacher 5) Treat the whole person (physical, mental , emotional, genetic, environmental, social and other individual factors) 6) Preventative medicine, and 7) Wellness. Naturopathic physicians are licensed in the state of Connecticut following a post-collegiate resident course of at least four years and 4,100 hours of study from a college or university recognized by the State Examining Board.Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture is a five thousand year old medical tradition based on clinical observation and treatment. Diagnosis in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture is based on observation, interview, pulse and tongue diagnosis, and other diagnostic tools. Following an assessment, treatment may involve acupuncture, cupping, moxabustion, electrotherapy, bleeding, TDP heat lamp, or other traditional treatments. Acupuncture involves the placement of sterile one time use disposable needles into specific points on the body. The training required of an Acupuncturist includes successful completion of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) exam. Training may also include a Masters of Science in Acupuncture degree.Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is an energetic treatment that allows for mechanical and structural changes in the body through subtle movements at various areas of the body.Addiction Treatments
